First Year Advisement

As soon as you enroll at SUNY Oswego, we assign a faculty member to you as your first year advisor.  Prior to the start of the semester, you will receive the name and contact information for this valuable person.

This faculty advisor is prepared to help you make decisions about your academic courses, activities and resources.  The advisor may also work with a peer advisor who is a trained upper-class student acting as a resource person and mentor for you.

Think of your first year faculty and peer advisor as your own personal support team, ready with the expertise and tools to help you succeed.  This advisement team is eager to answer any questions you may have about Oswego.

The Advisement Guide contains most of the academic policies and procedures, including General Education requirements, graduation requirements, information on registering for classes, information for Advisement Coordinators and more.

Our Advisement Checklist helps to provide students with important information about registration pins, class search tips, and more.

If you are a First Year Student for Fall 2012 you can find out who your First Year Faculty Advisor is by looking on your myOswego account on the bottom of the New Student Menu.  You can look at the link below to find out where your First Year Faculty Advisor meeting will be on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 4:30pm.  You can also find if your First Year Faculty Advisor is working with a Peer Advisor and how you can contact them.  If you do not have a Peer Advisor listed remember the Compass Naviagators in 145 Campus Center are always willing to answer questions and offer support.
