A political refugee from Iraq, advocate for interfaith understanding, and co-founder of The American Islamic Congress will speak on details about her life in Iraq, experiences as a refugee, perspective on freedom of religion and free exercise, differences between U.S. and Europe, and interfaith understanding.

"Freedom of Religion" Film Series

Tuesday Sept. 13/Thursday Sept. 15 7:00pm, Campus Center 201

Tuesday night there will be a showing of the documentary "Knocking." An inside look in the civil liberties fought for by Jehovah's Witnesses.

Thursday night will have a PBS documentary "God in America" a look at religion's role in the creation and growth of America.

Oswego Student Debate

Wednesday Sept. 14 12:00pm, Penfield Library Café

A student debate on the issue of if Park 51 should be allowed to be built in the surrounding area of Ground Zero. Students will tackle this issue from both sides and provide ample opportunity to discuss a current event issue.

Panel Discussion: "Freedom of Religion - Free Exercise Clause"

Wednesday Sept. 14 7:00pm, Campus Center 114

Three SUNY Oswego faculty members from differing disciplines will lead a discussion of freedom of religion. Jason Zenor from communications studies will discuss the Native-Americans and freedom of religion. Bruce Altschuler from the Political Science department will provide information on the laws surrounding freedom of religion. Finally, to provide a historical context of separation of church and state we will have Luther Peterson from the history department.
