International opportunities at Oswego are open to members of our home campus
community as well as students and scholars from other countries. Our goal is to
promote international understanding and appreciation for the rich diversity of
the world's cultures.
Study in Another Country
The Office of International Education and
Programs works to increase both the number of international students
attending Oswego and the number of American students studying abroad. Its Overseas Academic Programs section offers more than 30
study-abroad sites in 15 countries around the world as well as international
internships and teaching opportunities for American students. This office also
organizes Quarter Courses with International Travel, campus-based
classes that incorporate an overseas travel experience.
Study in the USA
The
International Student and Scholar Services section of the Office of
International Education and Programs provides students and faculty from other
countries with information about immigration, health care, housing and other
issues that facilitate their arrival in the United States for study on our
campus. Students from other nations who wish to improve their English language skills have options through our International Language and Education Center.
International Majors and Minors
Oswego's
global and international studies bachelor's degree program develops
students' knowledge and skills appropriate to a world of deepening
interconnections and interdependence across political, social, religious and
ethnic borders. This interdisciplinary program is also available as a minor for
students in other majors.
The language and international trade bachelor's degree
program provides students with the language skills, cultural information and
understanding of business and economics concepts that are in demand at firms
that operate in the global economy. This interdisciplinary program also is
available as a minor.
The School of Business offers two courses of study that provide students
with the managerial and interpersonal skills needed to successfully conduct
business in the international arena. The
international business minor is open to students in any major, while
business administration majors may pursue an
international business concentration.
Study of languages adds another international element to Oswego's curriculum, with a range of majors and minors available through our Department of Modern Languages and Literatures as well as our distinctive degree program in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Living and Learning Community
Hart Global Living
and Learning Center is a residential community with live-in faculty and
graduate student mentors that focuses on academic achievement and social
responsibility in a global context.
"World awareness" is one of the pillars of SUNY Oswego's strategic plan.
Members of the campus community may develop their global understanding through
overseas experiences, formal programs of study, the Hart living option or
informally through interaction with the international students who come to
Oswego and the many lectures, arts programs and colloquia on international
issues scheduled each semester.
