Japan, located in the Northwest Pacific Ocean east of mainland Asia, is made up of four main islands and thousands of smaller ones, forming an archipelago stretching almost 2000 miles. The “Land of the Rising Sun” is comprised of over 3000 islands most of which are mountainous and many volcanic, including Mt. Fuji, Japan’s highest peak. Its geographical composition, rich and ancient history, societal values, strong free market economy, diligent work ethic, diverse culture and enigmatic mystique make Japan a fascinating blend of modernity and deep tradition where east meets west.
Contradiction and variety are terms that have been used to describe the country, which is constantly evolving, adapting and spearheading modern technology. From the high rises of West Shinjuku to the sacred temples, from the techno-laden environment of Roppongi to the “sakura zensen” or cherry blossom, Japan offers a variety of adventure and knowledge for any traveler.
