Summer Intensive English Program

Program Description

The summer Intensive English Program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as working professionals, who need to improve and develop English.

Students will develop and improve English language skills as they receive four hours of course instruction daily Monday through Friday on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, grammar and writing. Students will receive college credits and a certificate upon satisfactory completion of the course.

This six - week program incorporates courses with after-class activities. To complement coursework, students will participate in required after class-activities. Activities include presentations and workshops. Students may also participate in optional evening activities, including tutoring sessions. Program assistants facilitate the smooth running of activities, provide support, and accompany students on trips.

Weekend Activities

On two weekends students will gain practical experience through planned and optional activities. They will visit two metropolitan cities, including New York City.

Niagara FallsWe'll take a Saturday trip to Niagara Falls to experience the natural beauty of North America.

There is also an opportunity to enjoy the Oswego Harborfest, a spectacular cultural weekend of music, dance, food, crafts and fireworks.

Lakeside Residence

Students in a lakeside residence hall will see spectacular sunsets.

The residence hall has a game room, coin operated laundry and vending machines. Each room is designed for two students and it is furnished with beds, mattresses, pillows, bedsheets, pillowcases, towels, hand towels, washcloths, bureaus, study desks, chairs, floor lamps, closets, telephone, and room refrigerators.

Program Dates

6 week program: June 18 - August 1, 2009
Students are expected to arrive on campus on June 18 and depart on August 1.

3 week program: July 08 - August 1, 2009
Students are expected to arrive on campus on July 08, and depart on August 1.

Program Cost

6 week program: $3695

3 week program: $2495

Program cost includes tuition, college and test fees, college transcripts, certificate of completion, accommodation with linen, pillow, blanket, towel, telephone and refrigerator in a lakeside residence hall, weekday meals on campus, welcome gifts, graduation banquet, and transportation on a reserved bus to and from the Syracuse Airport. For all flights arriving on June 18, the bus will depart from Syracuse airport at 5:30 p.m. For all flights departing on August 1, the bus will depart from Oswego at 7:30 a.m. for all flights departing from Syracuse after 9:30 a.m.

The six week program cost also includes transportation and quad accomodations for two nights in two metropolitan cities, including New York City, and a day trip to Niagara Falls.

The program cost does not include airfare, textbooks, personal expenses, medical insurance, off campus meals, weekend meals, sight seeing expenses, surcharges incurred by advising organizations, and the cost of travel between the airport and Oswego if you are not taking the reserved bus at the designated times from or to the airport on June 18 and August 1, 2009.

 TOEFL  [Test Of English as a Foreign Language]

Students interested in attending the Summer program only do not require minimum TOEFL scores to register in the program. Students interested in undergraduate or graduate study in the Fall semester require minimum TOEFL scores. For more details on semester courses see our English for Academic Purposes Program courses

To take a TOEFL in your home country, visit or call the local American Embassy or Consulate.
