Overall my trip to Guadalajara, Mexico was an amazing experience. Being submersed in the Mexican culture taught me a lot about myself; to be more open minded, cultured, independent, and courageous. Traveling to any country is quite the experience, but Mexico is a country many students do not consider when looking at the study abroad Guadalajara is an ideal location if you like big cities, and it’s full of Mexican culture. It is the home of Mariachi, amazing Mexican music, and Tequila. The downtown district is very historical and packed with mini markets. The food is amazing!! And cheap. Traveling in Mexico is very easy and affordable; I visited Acapulco, Mazatlan, Mexico City, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Aguascalientes, Chiapas and Morelia. I highly recommend visiting Chiapas to see the Mayan ruins, what an experience!! I lived with a family during my semester visit, which I found to be very rewarding. My host mom was really sweet and I had a great roommate. The option of finding housing is not difficult as I discovered upon arriving. A group of 9 of my friends found housing only a 20minute bus ride from the university.I highly recommend students to visit Mexico to improve their Spanish and enhance their global view. You don’t have to be fluent to visit; many of my friends spoke very little Spanish and left with at an intermediate level. Be open-minded and you are sure to have an excellent time dancing, traveling, partying and much more with Mexicans and other international students.

I am a UB undergraduate student, who took a study abroad to Cuernavaca, Mexico in the fall semester of 2002. WHAT AN AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, and UNFORGETTABLE experience I was about to embark on!! I had no idea how blessed I was to be able to go until I got there!! The best times I had were salsa dancing every Thursday night at a local place called "Zumbale" for FREE, eating late night TACOS DE PASTOR(they are DELICIOUS, fuera de este mundo!!), and of course just being with the loving and life-time friend I made. I came to appreciate the Mexican culture soooo much more than I ever imagined, and came to love their way of life. I really miss it there, and I realized the God-given passion I have for the Spanish culture and people is something that continues to burn within me. It opened me up to a whole new world, and I will never be the same again. I highly recommend studying abroad, it may be the chance of a lifetime for you, and you will have the time of your life!!! God bless you all!!

People had told me that going abroad would be the time of my life. I went to Cuernavaca without knowing anyone, but by the time I came back, I realized that I had just added a new chapter to my life. I lived with a warm, caring family who treated me as if I were their own daughter. The classes at the TEC were interesting and challenging yet not so demanding where they prohibited me from experiencing Mexico outside of the classroom. I formed strong bonds with other students, both international and Mexican, and traveled more than I had ever imagined. To have gained a knowledge of the history, the culture and the land is remarkable and now I truly know the significance of having "the time of my life."

The teaching staff was great and really made the courses eventfull. Their style of teaching was very differnt, challenging, creative, and informative. It was very good.
Advice to perspective students: Go into the program with an open mind to the new culture and be very careful who you trust.

Studying in Mexico was a wonderful experience! It really made me realize that the United States is not the center of the universe while at the same time giving me a deeper appreciation for what I have here at home. And not only did I get to learn about the Mexican culture, but I also met and made friends with other international students from all over the world.
On the other hand, becoming friends with the other international students and Mexican students was a great experience. Also, I gained a lot of confidence and independence by being so out of my 'comfort' zone. I also picked up valuable language skills which will serve me throughout my life.
Studying abroad was undoubtedly one of the most broadening experiences of my college career. I think the most important thing for people to be aware of when they go abroad is just to be open to the experience...the point is to become a broader person and everyone has to understand that things won't be exactly as they are used to.
