The Czech Republic lies in the heart of Central Europe. It is bounded by Germany to the West, Poland to the North, Slovakia to the East, and Austria to the South. The Czech Republic formed in 1993 with the breakup of the country of Czechoslovakia after the fall of communism, ending over forty years of control by the Soviet Union. Made up of two regions, Bohemia in the West and Moravia in the East, the Czech Republic is an interesting and important country that has experienced rapid changes over the past ten years. Now a member of NATO and the European Union, the Czech Republic is at once stylish and dynamic as well as traditional and quaint.
