Akita International University
The University

Akita International University’s (AIU) campus is located 30-40 minutes south of Akita City’s center by car. From various mountain ranges and nearby cedar forests, to colorful rice fields and the Omono River (one of the largest rivers in Japan), AIU is surrounded by natural settings.

The Program

Students attending AIU will be directly enrolled in the university and sit amongst Japanese students as well as other international students from an elite network of universities throughout the world. All courses are taught in English which makes the program at AIU unique and accommodating to students who do not have a sufficient level of Japanese language. Students may choose from a wide variety of courses in the following disciplines: Japan Studies, Global Business, Global Studies and/or Basic Education (Liberal Arts).

The Program Dates
  • Fall - late August to late December
  • Spring - mid April to late July
Housing and Meals

Students are encouraged strongly to live in AIU’s campus housing. For international students, residence hall rooms are guaranteed. Accomodation prices are based on shared occupancy (two students per room). Meals include three meals daily during the week and two meals daily on weekends. Students may NOT enter AIU’s residence hall before the designated date.
