Join an established program and prepare yourself for a dynamic career in mental health counseling. SUNY Oswego’s Mental Health Counseling program will teach you the listening, problem solving, diagnosis, treatment planning and case consultation skills needed for a future in mental health counseling.
Build your future
As a graduate of this NCATE accredited program, you will be eligible to become a Mental Health Counselor in New York State. This program can also prepare you to work as a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor through additional fieldwork and passage of the state exam.
Real world experience
As a student in this program, you will practice your learned skills outside the classroom through two field placement opportunities. A 120 hour practicum and 600 hour internship allow you to shadow professionals in the field, create relationships with area leaders for future opportunities, and see the skills, theories and ethics being utilized in the real world.
