Graduate Council Minutes – May 11, 2007

 

Attendance:,E. Basualdo D. King, M. LeBlanc, J. LeFevre, J. Perdiguero, R. Skolnik, W. Silky,  D. Vanouse

 

  1. Approval of Agenda. The agenda was approved as presented.
  2. Approval of Minutes.  April 27, 2007 were approved as written.
  3. Dean’s Report.
  • Revision of the CAS in Counseling and School Psychology approved by the State Education Department.
  • Certificate in Play Therapy approved by the State Education Department.
  • BA Psychology/MBA Five Year Program approved by the State Education Department.
  • BA Psychology/MA HCI Five Year Program approved by the State Education Department.
  • Certificate in CAS – Educational Leadership approved by SUNY Central and sent to the State Educational Department.
  • MAT Math approved by SUNY Central and sent to the State Educational Department.
  • MAT English needs revision.
  • License for Human Services Counseling amended to Mental Health Counseling; it has been approved by SUNY Central and sent to the State Education Department.
  • Festa Fellowship: Nine applications received, 6 approved including 3 for CNY Biotech Research Center (2 MBA students, 1 Graphic Design), 1for MedTech (HCI Program), 1 for Fort Ontario (History), 1 for the Syracuse School District (Educational Administration)
  • Metro Center Update: RFI down to two sites; probable opening in January or February 2008 at the earliest.
  • Graduate Assistantship funds for 2007-2008 have been allocated to programs. Funding level has stayed level. The Provost may provide additional funding.
  • Sloan Foundation Grant for the Professional Science Master’s in process of revision.
  • Work on the Professional Science Master’s is still continuing.  Currently 11
  1. Chair’s Report. D. Vanouse  reported that the HCI 590 course proposal was approved by Faculty Assembly. Faculty Assembly is considering enforcement of prerequisites in the Banner system. Recognizing transfer courses has been the biggest issue.
  2. Old Business.
  • CPS 587 Individual Cognitive Assessment. M. LeBlanc presented the revised course proposal that is a required specialized course in the MS School Psychology and Certificate of   Advanced Study. Use of Technology for Professional Development.  After a brief discussion, the course was approved as written.
  • Scholarship Recipients for the 2007-2008 academic year were chosen. William S. Barnes Scholarship: Lillian A. Okumu; William S. Nikas Scholarship: Alisa Wareham; Gooding Award: Alisa Mehelhic; Stephen & Ann Coco Presidential Scholarship: Tina Carr.

New Business.  Changes to the Chemistry Program: J. LeFevre presented the proposed changes to the MS Chemistry program. The changes allow for a reduction in required course work when students choose the thesis option. The change also eliminates the foreign language requirement which has been dropped by the ACA. After brief discussion, the changes were approved.  

 

 

The final meeting of the 2006-2007 academic year adjourned at 9:00.  Graduate Council members expressed gratitude to D. Vanouse for chairing the council and to J. Smith for recording council proceedings.
