Graduate Council Minutes – April 13, 2007
Attendance: K. Bisbee, J. Mullen, G. Klatsky, J.
LeFevre, C. Mack, J. Peridiguero, J. Smith, D. Vanouse
- Approval of Agenda: The agenda was reviewed and
approved as written.
- Approval of Minutes: The minutes of March 30th were
approved as written.
- Chair’s Report: D. Vanouse reported on the following
items
- There is still an opportunity for Council members to put forth their names
to serve on one of the SUNY Faculty Senate committees.
- Mary Loe needs to have electronic copies of all the approved course
outlines. It is assumed that course outlines will be sent from the
Graduate Studies Office once they have been approved.
- The revision of the IP grade definition was approved by Faculty Assembly,
but a flurry of email has resulted in respect to the “I” grade and
clarification of its definition. This definition has been clarified at
the graduate level with the addition of a time limit of six weeks into the
spring semester for the winter session.
- New Business

- LIT 511 Language and Literacy Development for All
Learners. J. Smith presented this required course in the MSED
Childhood 1-6 Certification program. After a discussion about the need
for noting classics in the References (no decision on the issue), the course
was passed as written.
- LIT 513 Adolescence Literacy: Assessment and Intervention.
J. Smith presented this required course in the MSED Adolescence 7-12
Certification program. After a brief discussion, it was approved as
written.
- LIT 514 Childhood Literacy: Assessment and
Intervention. J. Smith presented this required course in the
MSED Childhood 1-6 Certification program. It was approved as
written.
- HIS 541 America’s Vietnam War. C. Mack
presented this elective course that can be used by students in the MA History
or one of the Curriculum and Instruction MSED programs. Following a
discussion about the definite need for such a course, it was approved as
written.
With the agenda completed, the meeting adjourned at 9:00.
