III. FA Chair’s Report — D. King

D. King announced that the General Faculty meeting following this meeting will include the election of a Faculty Senator, as well as short remarks from Pres. Stanley. He also announced a special FA meeting on Monday, Sept. 18th to continue the election process that will fill vacancies on FA Councils and Committees, thus allowing some to hold their organizational meetings earlier than the end of the month. The FA Membership list will also be updated by this point.

D. King asked that once the Council and Committee membership are complete, the previous chairperson should convene an organizational meeting for the selection of a chair and other positions needed for each group. Otherwise, the member listed first on the council membership list is asked to convene the first meeting of the group.

Room 110 Mahar is the FA chair’s new office. Either call extension x 3270 or e-mail dking@oswego.edu to inform either FA Clerk or D. King of the new Council and Committee leadership positions.

D. King pointed out several FA priorities for this academic year, including revision of the FA bylaws, reorganization of governance structures based on recommendations of PPC and the Ad Hoc Committee on Governance. The new TESOL program and the new Middle School Program are other important issues on the FA agenda this year. Next semester will feature the re-registration of the Education Graduate Programs. FA must also review the role of governance in the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the campus, "Engagement 2000"
