February 16th, 2004 

Members Absent: S. Varhus, J. LeFlore, Art Department reps, A. Hurley, W. Silky

The meeting was called to order at 3:13 PM.

  1. Approval of Agenda
  2. The Agenda was approved unanimously.

  3. FA Chair’s Report – S. Camp

S. Camp reported that the Chancellor's Award for service is available this academic year. She worked with M. Ameigh on February 6th in hope that the Assembly could institute an interim solution for recommending a colleague. This issue was brought to the floor under new business.

S. Camp also mentioned that Interim Provost David King will report on Academic Affairs at the March 1st meeting. Also, if anyone in the Assembly is not receiving messages on the assembly list, please write to Jessica.

IV. Reports of Councils, Committees and Task Forces

Academic Policy Council met Friday, February 6th and approved the request from the Mathematics Department to remove MAT 254 from the list of electives for the Applied Statistics minor, since the course no longer exists. They also approved two program announcements from the English Department: Cinema and Screen Studies BA, and Creative Writing BA. They recommended approving the proposed changes to the History major. Their next meeting will be February 20, 2004.

Undergraduate Catalog proofs must be in by February 20, 2004.

Undergraduate Curriculum Council met on December 2nd and 9th 2003 and approved the following:

Academic Outreach Council met on Friday, February 13th to hear reports on Winter and Summer sessions offerings and enrollments. Winter session enrollment was down slightly from 2003. The decline might be explained by higher tuition rates. There were 354 students were enrolled in 18 courses over the Winter 2003 session. The summer session schedule is being finalized and will be available in early March.

V. Unfinished Business

Adoption of CLEP guidelines for issuing 6 and 12 sh credits in Modern Languages passed 17-11-4.

VI. New Business

1. Proposed motion to utilize current Chancellors Award Selection Committee for Excellence in Service Award Selection Committee for 2004 passed unanimously.

2. A discussion of Provost candidates was lead by S. Fettes, chair of the Provost Search Committee. She opened the discussion with a brief introduction of the five candidates. The Assembly then asked questions and commented on the candidates. S. Fettes will bring all comments and concerns to the next Provost Search Committee meeting.
