Faculty Assembly Minutes
November 17, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 3:21 p.m.

I. Approval of Agenda

With the removal of the September 22nd minutes, the agenda was approved unanimously.

II. Approval of Minutes

The minutes from October 6th, 2003 were approved unanimously.

III. FA Chair's Report - S. Camp

S. Camp requested that the Assembly please bring nominations for a one-semester sabbatical leave replacement for the General Education Council, Social and Behavioral Sciences representative, Gary Klatsky to the December 1st meeting.

For the next meeting we have invited Rhonda Mandel to update the Assembly on the process being used to assess our General Education. Assessment has begun and results will be shared.

The FA chair or a designee serves on two Chancellor Awards selection committees. S. Camp will be asking Faculty Assembly representatives to assist her in this responsibility. If anyone is interested in serving either on the Committee that selects Professional Staff or Faculty (teaching, service and librarianship), please let her know.

A list serve for FA representatives and alternates has been established. Jessica has subscribed everyone via majordomo. If anyone has not received the first test message, please let Jessica know (Godkin@oswego.edu). If you would like to use an address other than your Oswego username please let her know.

IV. Reports of Councils, Committees and Task Forces

Academic Outreach Council met on Friday, November 7th. They have not yet elected a chair, but Mary Bennett was elected as recorder and Glenn Graham as FA reporter. The council received updates on summer sessions, summer programs, distance learning and other programs. The council also engaged in a preliminary discussion of its goals for the academic year.

Undergraduate Curriculum Council met on November 4th and 11th 2003 and approved the following courses:

Academic Policies Council met on Friday, November 7th. They approved a proposed Biochemistry major and changes to the Theatre major and minor. The changes in Theatre were tabled for two weeks until APC consults with the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness.

Priorities and Planning Council met Friday, November 7th. They approved the proposed Biochemistry major and changes in the Theater major and minor. They also approved an amended proposal for changes to programs 050/098/137 within the Department of Accounting, Finance and Law.

Student Services and Admissions Committee met on Monday, November 10th. Jim Scharfenburger shared data about student activities. They asked him to gather data in the following two areas:

1) Information about non-academic activities in which students are engaged.

2) Information about students who may be at risk for not having activities that match their interests or needs.

V. Unfinished Business

1. Proposed revision of anthropology major was approved unanimously.

2. Proposed revision of anthropology minor was approved unanimously.

3. Proposed revision of anthropology biocultural minor was approved unanimously.

4. The motion to approve the proposal to change the course add date from 8 instructional days to 5 instructional days failed 10:25:0.

VI. New Business

1. A motion was made to reconstitute the Sexual Harassment Task Force, and rename it the Sexual Harassment and Faculty-Student Sexual Relations Policies and Procedures Task Force. The Task Force will report regularly to the Faculty Assembly and submit a proposed faculty-student sexual relations policy and procedures by the penultimate meeting of the Spring 2004 Faculty Assembly.
