Faculty Assembly Minutes
October 6, 2003

 

Members Absent: C. Karadjov, A. Hurley, E. Olson, G. Graham, R. Card, S. Rosow, B. Randolph

The meeting was called to order at 3:14 PM.

I. Approval of Agenda

S. Camp added, to the agenda, a short video for SEFA after the chair's report. The agenda was approved unanimously.

II. FA Chair's Report - S. Camp

S. Camp reminded the Assembly that an abbreviated FA meeting followed by a General Faculty meeting will be held on October 20th. The agenda has already been forwarded to the Campus Community. President Stanley will be addressing faculty questions regarding a variety of issues.

S. Camp announced that B. Shaber is unable to serve as a representative on the Undergraduate Curriculum Council. An election will be held next meeting and nominations for the A&S Humanities position are needed.

S. Camp urged that issues be brought to the appropriate councils during this period of quiet time. These issues include searching for faculty, system-wide general education assessment, the Provost Search, minority student recruitment and retention, etc.

III. SEFA Campaign Video - H. Gordon

Last year SEFA raised $28,000 for hundreds of organizations. The goal this year is $30,000. SEFA, combined with United Way, allows state employees to make donations to organizations of their choice, locally or nationally, from their paychecks.

IV. Reports of Councils, Committees and Task Forces

Academic Policies Council met Friday, October 3. They are revising their routing slip, making it more efficient and less complex. The next meeting is Friday, October 17.

Information Technologies Council met on September 26. They proposed bylaw changes for ITC to be given to Personnel Policies Council on September 29, 2003. A brief initial discussion of course management software has begun.

Graduate Council met Friday, October 3. The courses approved by the Graduate Council are:

Bio 500 Field Natural History

Bio 556 Flora of the Oswego Region

Zoo 575 Entomology

Zoo 585 Field Mammalogy

D. Vanouse was elected chair.

Undergraduate Curriculum Council announced that their web site (www.oswego.edu/ucc) is now updated. J. Brockway gave a demonstration and showed the Assembly the new course submission forms.

V. Unfinished Business

    1. Elections for vacancies on FA Councils and Committees

The following people were elected to FA Councils and Committees:

Auxiliary Services Board: B. Bosch

Student Association Representative: M. Bell

Administrative Appeals Board: S. Abraham

Judicial Advisory Panel: B. Altschuler

2. Proposed NAS Minor revisions were approved

3. Proposed English MA revisions were approved

VI. Course Space Demonstration

C. Kaus gave a demonstration on the new web based course management software designed to help faculty post their syllabus and schedule, contact students, outline each class and start online discussions. After the demonstration, C. Kaus answered any questions the Assembly had.

VII. New Business

There was no new business.
