Faculty Assembly Minutes October 20, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 3:09 p.m.
I. Approval of Agenda
Approval of the minutes from September 9 and 15 were postponed until November 3. The agenda was approved unanimously.
II. FA Chair's Report - S. Camp
S. Camp encouraged all to attend the Faculty Senate meeting on Friday, October 24 which will be in Sheldon Ballroom. She also announced that Oswego Women's Center would be holding activities all week starting the night of October 20, 2003.
III. Reports of Councils, Committees and Task Forces
Academic Policies Council met Friday, October 17th. APC reported the following to the Assembly:
1. Approval of calendar revision
2. Approval of add date policy
3. Submission of APC reporting out procedures
4. Approval of change to Human Development major
Admissions and Student Services Council elected Steve Abraham as Chair, Rolando Arroyo Sucre as recorder and Betsy Waterman as FA reporter. The next meeting is Monday, November 3.
Information Technology Council met on October 17th. They discussed the need to elicit student response in addition to faculty response. They also discussed the choice of Coursespace by the institution and faculty computer replacements.
Priorities and Planning reported that the Council voted unanimously to grant the Chairperson the authority to sign off on "minor" program changes without bringing them to the full Council for a vote. "Minor" changes were defined as those which clearly involve no resource or staffing changes. This authority of the Chairperson will be voted on by the Council annually. It was also reported that the Council reviewed proposed changes in the Theatre Major. Ultimately the issue was tabled pending information that Chairperson Stamm will obtain from Mark Cole (Theatre Chairperson).
UCC met Tuesday, October 14th, but has no courses to report out. Faculty should remind their departments that the form and procedures for course proposals are available at http://www.oswego.edu/ucc.
IX. Unfinished Business
1. Human Computer Interaction Masters Degree proposal was approved.
X. New Business
1. Luther Peterson, Oswego Faculty Senator, announced the Fall Plenary Session of Faculty Senate would to be held this Thursday through Saturday, October 23-25, in Sheldon Ballroom. The main business of the session is SUNY faculty's response to the Board of Trustee's resolution of June 17 that SUNY campus are to initiate and report to Central Administration value-added assessment of certain General Education requirements. Discussion ensued on the BOT resolution and the Memorandum of Understanding (9th draft) worked out between Central Administration and representatives of the Faculty Senate and its community college equivalent. The motion to oppose the June Board of Trustees resolution requiring system wide general education value assessment was passed. Also the motion to authorize Senator Peterson to vote against the MOU passed.
