The meeting was called to order at 3:10 P.M.
I. Approval of Agenda
The agenda was approved unanimously with the move of the General Education
proposal to first under unfinished business.
II. FA Chair’s Report – S. Camp
Dr. Camp began by welcoming everyone again. She then went on to discuss
items from last week. She welcomed the new representatives—please contact the
departmental rep that you replaced to obtain any current proposals or info for
future meetings. Gave new clerk information—Anthony Procopio (procopio@oswego.edu). Any corrections to
membership, councils, reports should go to Anthony in both e- and hard copy. So
that the minutes accurately reflect our meetings, please speak loudly and
clearly. Feel free to stand to speak if your voice does not carry.
She then discussed Review of Dean Varhus. A review committee will be
elected that mirrors a Dean of Arts and Sciences Search Committee. (“The
search committee for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences shall consist
of one member from each of the following subdivisions:* (1) Humanities; (2)
Fine Arts and Library; (3) Social and Behavioral Sciences; (4) Natural
Sciences; (5) Professional Staff (NTP); (6) School of Business or School of
Education voting faculty; and (7) one student member. The voting faculty of the
College of Arts and Sciences shall elect these individuals, and the Student
Association shall select the student member.”). A request for nominations
will go out soon.
SPAB—be prepared to be a part of at least one focus group for the SPAB
process.
Camp will be working with PPC to develop the criteria for an Award for
Service-modeled after the President’s award for Scholarly and Creative Activity
and the award for Teaching Excellence.
College Hour begins soon. A call will be coming for programs, ideas,
collaborations etc. Spring 2007, Wednesday, 12:40-1:35 p.m. will be
college hour, with M&F being a time for meetings or other activities.
She also announced that “SUNY Oswego has been invited by the Center for
Academic Integrity, which has its home in the Kenan Institute for Ethics at
Duke University, and by Professor Donald McCabe of Rutgers University to take
part in a survey to get the views of faculty about the current state of
academic integrity at the colleges and universities in our nation.” Dr.
David Bozak is responsible for coordinating the survey on our campus. The
survey can be found at http://integrity.rutgers.edu/oswegofac.asp
and is self-explanatory.
Lastly she reported that all council reports and all proposals should come
both in hard copy and digital (for easy distribution).
III. Reports of Councils, Committees and Task
Forces
Personnel Policies Council called for nominations for both
the School of Business dean search committee and the College of Arts and
Sciences Dean review committee.
Campus Concept Committee met on September 12 and toured
2/3rds of Penfield and will meet again on Sept 27 to complete tour and begin
discussion of Academic Quad.
Writing Across the Curriculum Task Force is meeting on
Wednesday to take a look at the previous WAC coordinator and data from the past
5 or 6 years.

V. Unfinished Business
- The General Education Council proposal to infuse critical thinking was
postponed until the
November 6th meeting. The vote to postpone was 37-0.
- The Amendment to Faculty Bylaws, Article XII Section 5 failed 10-19.
- The amendment to Faculty Bylaws, Article XXIV Section 1 passed 35-1.

Section 1. Ex-Officio Members
The Director of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, the Coordinator
for Summer Sessions, the Assistant Provost for Distance Learning and
Information Resources, the Dean of Graduate Studies, the Director of
the Center for Business and Community Programs, and the Registrar.
