Fundamentals of Acting
An introduction to acting that emphasizes working with belief,
physical presence, concentration, imagination, and pursuing an objective.
Exercises, improvisation, and scenes with partners are explored to develop the
actor’s commitment, vulnerability, and moment-to-moment involvement in the
process of acting.

Movement Class
The class offers an introduction to physical awareness and release to
help the actor reach an energized, balanced state for efficient and expressive
use of the body in performance. Exercises will center on yoga,
centering/conditioning work, and contact improvisation.

Voice, Speech, and, Text
This class engages the student actor in the exploration and training
of breathing, poise, and relaxation; the production and transmission of vocal
sound waves; and the articulation of sound into speech. The vocal/acting
challenges of poetic texts (Shakespearean) and contemporary monologues are
investigated.

Seminars/Workshops
Topics include auditioning, choosing a college, instruction in
commercial acting and acting for the camera, and mask acting. Previous years’
seminars have included an Entertainment Manager from Disney World as well as
the Artistic Director and actors from The Renaissance Festival.

Stage Combat
Techniques are learned to create the safe illusion of stage fighting.
The students develop fight choreography in class with movement work that
increases confidence and physical coordination.
