Fundamentals of Acting
An introduction to acting that emphasizes working with belief, physical presence, concentration, imagination, and pursuing an objective. Exercises, improvisation, and scenes with partners are explored to develop the actor’s commitment, vulnerability, and moment-to-moment involvement in the process of acting.

Movement Class
The class offers an introduction to physical awareness and release to help the actor reach an energized, balanced state for efficient and expressive use of the body in performance. Exercises will center on yoga, centering/conditioning work, and contact improvisation.

Voice, Speech, and, Text
This class engages the student actor in the exploration and training of breathing, poise, and relaxation; the production and transmission of vocal sound waves; and the articulation of sound into speech. The vocal/acting challenges of poetic texts (Shakespearean) and contemporary monologues are investigated.

Seminars/Workshops
Topics include auditioning, choosing a college, instruction in commercial acting and acting for the camera, and mask acting. Previous years’ seminars have included an Entertainment Manager from Disney World as well as the Artistic Director and actors from The Renaissance Festival.

Stage Combat
Techniques are learned to create the safe illusion of stage fighting. The students develop fight choreography in class with movement work that increases confidence and physical coordination.
