The Oswego Summer Jazz Institute is designed to give high school students an opportunity to explore and expand their abilities in the Jazz idiom. The program is structured to inspire all levels of musicians and offers classes, workshops, and critiques from some of the best jazz musicians in the country today. The campus, located just west of the city of Oswego, is bordered on the north by scenic Lake Ontario. The Music Department and the Summer Sessions Division at Oswego State have joined forces to offer you an exciting and enriching musical experience. We are pleased to invite you to our Summer Jazz Institute!

The institute, a two-week program, involves a total immersion in music-making. It offers up-and-coming players the opportunity to develop their skills through performances, classes in history and theory, and faculty workshops. The campus offers excellent facilities and outstanding venues for concert presentations.

Evening concerts will be held frequently by the faculty during the two weeks of the institute. Students will have the opportunity to hear quality presentations, and student jam sessions will be organized after each concert. The institute will culminate on July 30 with a reception for family and friends followed by a faculty and student concert.

Successful completion of the Jazz Institute will earn three college credits. This credit may be applied to any program at Oswego State or easily transferred to another college or university.
