Special Three-Hour Free Introduction Workshop
October 16, 2007

2 PM & 5:30 PM

Formal Lounge, Hewitt Union, SUNY Oswego

Sponsored by SUNY Oswego’s Institute for Professional and Organizational Development in collaboration with Office of Business and Community Relations.

Bridges Out of Poverty explores practical strategies to help people in different economic classes understand each other’s “worlds” and improve outcomes for people transitioning out of poverty. A shared understanding of the ways in which the different economic classes operate and the recognition of the resources that each class has to offer are the backbone of the Bridges approach, fostering connectivity and creativity in devising workable solutions to community problems. Join our collaborative learning process as we develop new skills and understandings in working across economic classes. Lend your voice and experience to our future discussions.

Explore practical strategies to help people in different socio-economic classes understand each other’s worlds and improve outcomes for people transitioning out of poverty.

Philip DeVolPhilip DeVol, co-author of the book Bridges out of Poverty, trains and consults on poverty issues through AHA, Process, and is also the author of Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting-By World: Building Your Resources for a Better Life, a workshop for people in poverty. Phil's experience includes developing school based, substance abuse prevention, intervention and student assistance programs.

This seminar gives both the social service provider and the community member key lessons in dealing with individuals from poverty.
