Field Placement Office

Overview
The Field Placement Office was established in 2001 with 250 candidates placed in early experiences and 350 candidates in student teaching placements. Today, the number of placements made for teacher candidates have almost tripled. More than 1,800 placements are made in nearly 300 schools and other agencies during each academic year. The Field Placement Office currently works closely with the Curriculum & Instruction Program, the Technology Education Program, and the Vocational Teacher Preparation Program to arrange field experience and student teaching placements for teacher candidates.
The Field Placement Office collaborates with academic faculty, public/private schools and community partners to locate authentic, rich, engaging and diverse hands-on experiences for all teacher candidates in the School of Education. Field experiences with real childern are an integral part of the teacher education program at SUNY Oswego. From your first education course through student teaching and beyond, you will be supported by talented faculty and professionals in a variety of settings to develop your skills as a beginning educator.
Field Placements
To be eligible for New York State certification, teacher candidates registered in teacher education programs are required to complete at least 100 clock hours of classroom experience prior to student teaching. The Field Placement Office works closely with the Curriculum & Instruction Program, the Technology Education Program, and the Vocational Teacher Preparation Program to arrange field experiences for teacher candidates. The arrangement and placement procedures for each field experience vary depending upon your program and the block you are completing.
Curriculum & Instruction Field Placements
All C&I Adolescence, TESOL and Childhood Education candidates must register & sign-up for Spring 2012 Field Experiences with the Field Placement Office during one of the following scheduled times: (The sign-up will take roughly 15 minutes to complete).

Note: Please bring a pen & copy of your detailed course schedule to sign-ups! All C&I candidates who are registered for a EDU303/503 field experience will be responsible for attending one of two Field Experience Orientation sessions for Spring 2012. The Spring Placement Orientations will take place on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 9:00 am-10:30 am & 11:30am-1:00 pm in the Sheldon Hall Ballroom.
Technology Education Field Placements
All Technology Education candidates will sign-up for Field Experiences during one of the following courses:
- TED 201- Introduction to Teaching Technology Education
- TED 201- Introduction to Technology Education Curriculum
- TED 306- Methods of Teaching Technology Education
Note: An Assistant Coordinator from the Field Placement Office will conduct a Field Placement Orientation at the beginning of each semester. Candidates will receive additional information during one of the courses listed above.
Vocational Teacher Preparation Field Placements
The Field Placement Office currently does not arrange Field Experiences for the Vocational Teacher Preparation Program. Please contact your advisor in the Vocational Teacher Preparation Department for more information.
Student Teaching
To be eligible for New York State certification, all candidates registered in teacher education program are required to student teach and/or complete an internship under a college supervisor who works cooperatively with a cooperating teacher to assist candidates in developing the needed teaching skills, knowledge and dispositions. The Field Placement Office works closely with the Curriculum & Instruction Program, the Teacher Education Program and Vocational Teacher Preparation Program to arrange student teaching placements. The arrangements and placement procedures for student teaching placements vary depending upon your program.
