Please select SUC Oswego as your report school when enrolling for the exams.
All teacher candidates are required to take exams as part of the requirements to become certified to teach in New York State. Teacher candidates will not become certified to teach in NY without a passing score on all necessary exams.
Effective February 2, 2004 through December, 2013, individuals seeking an Initial New York State teaching certificate must achieve qualifying scores on the following set of assessments:
· LAST - Liberal Arts and Sciences test
· ATS-W - Assessment of Teaching Skills - Written, (elementary or secondary)
· CST - Content Specialty Test in the content area of the certification (i.e. for Adolescence Education English 7-12 take the CST in English, Childhood Education 1-6 take the Multi-Subject CST, etc.)
Once you have met all the state test requirements for Initial Certification, you will not need any further testing to obtain your Professional Certificate.
You must register for the exams online at www.nystce.nesinc.com using a credit card. Please do not register for any of the above exams if you anticipate graduating IN May 2014 or after. Go to the NYSTCE Update page for current information about revised exams.
