The Torch Bearers

|
written by George Kelly • directed by Mark Cole • Waterman Theatre, Tyler Hall
The eccentric and pompous Mrs. Pampinelli gathers her amateur actors to rehearse for their small-town production. Despite her best directorial efforts, sets collapse, props disappear and lines are forgotten. Through the follies, tears and comedic mishap, Mrs. Pampinelli champions the noble art of theatre and carries the torch of culture onward. Labeled a comic gem of the American theatre, The Torch Bearers is a rollicking evening of entertainment.

Pera Palas

|
written by Sinan Unel
directed by Deanna Downes
Waterman Theatre
Centered in the Turkish city of Istanbul, Pera Pelas stages tensions and misunderstandings between the West and Middle East. Moving fluidly through critical time periods, this play connects the end of the Ottoman Empire with Turkey's joining NATO in the 1950s, and contemporary Turkish culture, all reflected through the eyes of the harem, a culturally mixed marriage, and conflicts between a father and son.
