Degree Programs

Sociology is a discipline that studies human behavior in groups, how groups are organized, and how institutional structures influence the individual. Sociology emphasizes the diversity of cultures and human societies, including those groups marginalized or invisible in mainstream cultures. Our students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge that helps them to think critically and communicate effectively about social structures and the forces that shape individual, group and collective experience.

The Sociology Department is well represented by students who are active in the discipline, college and community activities. Most graduates of the sociology program pursue careers that reflect their skills in caring, community organization, human and public service, as well as careers in sales and business.
