Public Justice Club

Meeting Schedule:

Wednesday, September 16th
Time: 12:40 - 1:15pm
Place: 217 Mahar

Meeting length: 15- 30 minutes

Currently only Public Justice Majors or Minors may participate in the Club.

The Public Justice Club was founded to bond students who share common goals and interests, learn more about public agencies and the community, and to explore ways to serve our community. The Club has a variety of different events and activities planned, some include: guest speakers, ride-alongs, and trips to jails/prisons. The Club is always looking for new members and new activities in which to take part.

The Public Justice Club meets on scheduled Wednesdays during the college hour, which is 12:40, in room 217 Mahar. Our meetings run from 15-30 minutes, depending on the event schedule. If you are interested in coming to our next meeting, please contact Kevin Johnson. We are currently only accepting students who are Public Justice majors or minors. We may allow you to join if you are majoring in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, or Forensic Science. We have just been established as a group this semester, but we have big plans for our group. We are opened to any suggestions you may have. We will also be working closely with the peer advisors of the Public Justice Department.

PBJ Club Events:

Wednesday November 18 - 2-4pm in Swetman Gym




DWI Awareness event-
The Public Justice Club will be holding a DWI awareness event in the
Swetman Gym on Wednesday November 18 from 2-4.  There will be a
University Police Officer who will have beer goggles there.  The
officer will provide some educational information regarding DWI and
put participants through some of the field sobriety tests.
Participants will also try shooting free throws with the goggles on.
There will be prizes from the best shooters.
Thursday November 19 - at 7pm in 107 Lanigan.
A career in the New York State Troopers-
The Public Justice Club has arranged for Investigator Elliot Boyce to
give a presentation on his experience as a Trooper.  He has been a
Trooper for 23 years, and works out of Onida (Troop D).  He also
teaches classes at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center.  Previous classes he
has taught include: Criminal Investigation and Community Policing.  He
will be teaching a 4th quarter class in the spring titled
Multicultural Law Enforcement.  If you are planning on going into the
NYS Troopers, or are just interested in law enforcement you will enjoy
this presentation.  As you might expect after 23 years on the job he
has a lot of good stories and knowledge about the job you can't get
from a textbook.
