Vocal Ensembles

If you're interested in participating in vocal ensembles at SUNY Oswego, we have many opportunities from which to choose:

  • Festival Chorus (Monday, 7-9 p.m. in Tyler Hall, room 41)

    The Festival Chorus began in 1960 under the direction of Dr. Maurice O. Boyd. The mission of the choir is to promote choral music and to share joy of music with community. The choir consists of students, faculty, staff, and community members. No audition is required. The repertoire focuses on master works, usually with orchestral accompaniment and also traditional choral music of many cultures and genres. Academic credit is available for participation. Three semesters in Festival Chorus satisfies the Fine and Performing Arts General Education requirement for the College.     College Choir (MWF, 1:50-2:45 in Tyler Hall, room 41)

    The College Choir is an ensemble open to all students without audition. All that required is a love of music and the willingness to share our joy of music with others. The choir performs a wide variety of music in 2-3 concerts each semester. Academic credit is available for participation. Three semesters in College Choir satisfies the Fine and Performing Arts General Education requirement for the College. Rehearsals begin on Monday, August 26. If you love singing, please join us!     State Singers (TTh, 2:20-3:40 p.m. in Tyler Hall, room 41)

    The State Singers is a select ensemble of 16-20 members that performs jazz, pop and classical repertoire in its 3-5 performances each semester. This group also performs at college and community ceremonies and events, and has toured both regionally and nationally. Auditions are held at the beginning of the fall semester, and a year-long commitment is expected. Additional auditions are held in the spring semester if vacancies occur. Academic credit is available for participation. Auditions will take place Monday through Wednesday, August 26 through 28. Additional choral opportunities are available with the Oswego Gospel Choir, Vocal Effect, Oswego Opera Theatre and mainstage musical theatre productions each year.
