MUSIC 100: Music Fundamentals

This course is an introductory course which will emphasize basic musical skills and knowledge, including note reading, scales, rhythmic patterns, elementary keyboard skills and basic concepts of harmony.
Prerequisites: None
Course Objectives:
Students will be able to understand and apply the rules of notation and basic music theory. Specifically they will be able to:
1. Read music - understand how music is represented
on the printed page both melodically and rhythmically.
2. Define and understand basic technical musical terms
3. Demonstrate rhythmic skills
4. Demonstrate basic keyboard skills.
5. Develop an understanding of scales, intervals,
triads and their relationship in a musical context.
