Listed below are a number of SUNY Oswego alumni that have expressed a willingness to be contacted by those interested in Law School. This list is arranged alphabetically by the last name that the person had when he/she graduated from Oswego.
Joshua Hurwit (2003) graduated from the University at Buffalo Law School in May 2008. Prior to entering law school, he was an editorial assistant and staff writer at the Times Union in Albany, New York. Jason R. Denny (2005) is currently attending Syracuse University College of Law (class of 2009). Jason graduated from Oswego with a BA in psychology/philosophy and a minor in business. He plans on practicing corporate or real estate law. Jason may be reached by e-mail at jrdenny@syr.edu.
Timothy Bunsic (1998) graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Law in May of 2002 with his J.D. and passed the Florida bar exam given in July of that same year. Timothy graduated in December 1998 with a B.A. degree in Public Justice. He would like to thank Professor Margaret Ryniker, who, in Timothy's words: "is responsible for making me raise my goals to a higher standard. John J. Cavo (1996) graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law in May 2000 with High Honors. He was Editor-in-Chief of the St. Thomas Law Review and served on the Executive Board of Moot Court. He is currently practicing in Chicago, IL at the law firm of Litchfield Cavo. His areas of practice are in insurance coverage and general civil litigation. He is licensed in Fla. and Illinois and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Louis U. Gasparini (1999) is currently attending Albany Law School in Albany, NY and will be graduating May 2002. Lou graduated in May of 1999 from Oswego with a double major in Political Science and Public Justice. Lou plans on specializing in corporate or business law upon graduation. Maria Millares (1987) is currently working for the Export-Import Bank of the United States. After graduating from Oswego as a double major in Economics and Mathematics, Maria received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990 and spent several years working for a large national law firm. Arthur Prostick (1992) is currently a Public Finance Associate with the law firm of Brown and Wood in New York. He notes that he's been able to use his economics training quite a bit as part of his practice in public finance law. After graduating from Oswego with a B.A. degree in Economics, Arthur received his law degree at Albany Law School in 1998. He has worked in Corporate Securities and Public Finance departments. Lawrence A. Provost (2000 and 2001) is currently attending Regent University Law School in Virginia Beach, VA. Lawrence graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BA double major in History (Honors)/American Studies as well as a BA in Political Science (Honors). Lawrence is specializing in Public Interest/Constitutional Law and is also pursuing a Joint JD/MA in Political Campaign Management. Mr. Mindell, Dr. Clemo, Dr. Baron, Dr. Thurber, Dr. Mack helped me develop many of the writing skills that I need for law school and their counsel is of course highly recommended. William Kennon Reed (1992) is currently practicing law in Asheville, N.C. He is specializing in Real Estate, Business, and Environmental Law. After graduating from Oswego with a double major in Economics and Political Science, William completed his J.D. degree in 1995 at the Washington College of Law at American University. He received an M.A. degree in Law and International Affairs at American University in 1997. He notes that he actively plays and referees ice hockey, a love of which was developed at Oswego. Brian S. Schlosser (1997) graduated Magna Cum Laude from Touro Law School in Huntington, NY. He graduated from Oswego with a degree in Marketing. Joe Storch (2002) attends law school at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. At Oswego, Storch studied Political Science and Communications, while minoring in Public Policy and Administration. During his four years at Oswego, he was involved in the Student Association and other activities. After graduation, he worked for one year as an Admissions Counselor at Oswego before enrolling in law school. He recommends that potential 1L's take some classes in Philosophy as well as Economics. Additionally, any class with a strong writing requirement will serve them well when they get to law school. Arik Turner (1998) is in his third year of Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island and in the top 10% of his class. Arik graduated from Oswego with a major in Public Justice and a minor in Economics. He notes that Dr. Spizman's classes in Labor Law (Eco 355) and Law and Economics (Eco 356) were extremely helpful in making the transition to law school. Robert Whitaker (2002) is in his second year of law school at the University of Buffalo. Robert is currently in the top 15% of his class and a member of the Buffalo Law Review. He earned a B.A. in History at Oswego and attributes much of his success in law school to the educational foundation he received at Oswego, particularly under the guidance of Dr. Leo Hernandez. James Bullard (2005) is currently attending Washington and Lee School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. James graduated from Oswego's Honors Program with B.A.'s in Political Science and American History. While at Oswego, James participated in student council, wrote for the Oswegonian, and played Varsity Lacrosse. He recommends that potential 1L's take classes such as Constitutional Law, International Law, and Business Law as learning how to read and understand court cases is crucial for the first year of law school. He also suggests for potential candidates from SUNY Oswego to maintain a good GPA, begin preparing for the LSAT exam at least three months in advance, and to heed Dr. Abraham's advice with law school application materials, particularly concerning the personal statement. Jeremy Tucker (2004) attends the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia. He is a staff member on the Temple International and Comparative Law Journal and a member of the campus Christian Legal Society. Jeremy graduated with dual degrees in Finance and Economics and extended his undergraduate years by studying in Japan for a year. He also notes that while any undergraduate discipline can be helpful in law school, background in sociology and economics will be particularly relevant. Jeremy highly recommends consulting a current law student before applying to potential law schools. And, yes, study abroad in law school is possible. Any success that Jeremy has at Temple is due most of all to Dr. Lawrence Spizman, Prof. Joan Carroll, Prof. Joe Peng, and Prof. Yoshiko Fujita.
