The following steps should be taken in order to complete the approval process for proposed learning agreements. Remember that Information Science majors should complete this process by the end of their sophomore year.
- The student consults with advisor and others, and decides upon the courses to choose. There are examples of previous learning agreements available as well as a sample of a completed approved learning agreement.
- The student drafts an agreement based on the Learning Agreement Form and discusses it with an advisor or selects one of the prepackaged Learning Agreements. The process is much simpler for the prepackaged Learning Agreements. See Prepackaged Learning Agreements.
- When the student and advisor agree on the draft, the student sends an email copy of the final version to the advisor, who prints it out and signs the paper copy in the appropriate place.
- The student sends an email copy of the agreement to the Information Science Program Director and then comes in to see the Director, bringing the signed paper copy. When the document meets the Director's approval, the Director signs the paper copy and forwards both the paper and email copies to the Advisement Committee Chair.
- The Advisement Committee Chair forwards email copies to committee members.
- Committee members return email copies to the Advisement Committee Chair along with comments and recommendations.
- The Advisement Committee Chair makes a final decision, and if approved, signs the paper version. This signed paper version is filed by the Information Science Program Director. Copies are sent to the student, the advisor, the Advisement Committee Chair and the Registrar.
