Information science

Information science is a unique multidisciplinary program combining a strong technical component (courses in computer programming, database and text management systems, telecommunication, expert systems and statistics) with awareness of the human aspects of information systems (assessing people's information needs, exploring various social effects of information systems, looking at national and international information policy issues, and evaluating systems in human terms).

Following the first 39 hours of coursework in either information science, computer science or statistics, students develop a learning agreement working with a faculty member. Consisting of mostly upper-division coursework, it is designed to provide a firm grounding in a particular application area within the framework of information science.

The program is administered by a multidisciplinary committee whose membership includes faculty from psychology, communications studies, information science, computer science, business administration and Penfield Library.
