Email to Dave Valentino from Dan Paccione, Geology '09

Hey Dave,

It feels like yesterday that I was in your office listening to your stories about all of your former students who report back to you that their extensive field experience through Oswego geology landed them
their job. As it turns out, I want to add myself to that list. This past Friday I was offered one of the entry-level geologist positions at ****** out on Long Island. I'll be happily putting in my two
weeks' notice for my current job on Monday.

I can remember many occasions when you reminded us how important field skills are. Having just been hired BECAUSE of this experience, I want to add myself as an up-to-date example for your current and
future students. Amongst the many things they asked during the interview, they were quick with follow-up questions about the many places I had been and what work I had personally done there. Coupled with my Geo399 work with Paul, I could tell they were impressed with the variety of things I had exposure to. In line with the work they do (remediation solutions for ExxonMobil), naturally they wanted more experience with soil-sampling, ground water sampling, etc.. However, after what I've been through, I don't think the training process will be nearly as challenging.

Well anyway, I thought you'd be glad to know how, despite the bad economy, I was fortunate enough to find a position in my field and am going to forever hold the Oswego geology program largely responsible
for it. There's no doubt in my mind that it would be inappropriate not to do so.

I'll be sure to visit sometime during fall '09... Maybe sneak in on a stress vs. strain lesson!

Take care till then Dave and thanks again.

-Dan
