The dedicated team of professionals behind Project SMART work together on increasing the quality and quantity of math, science and technology education and career information available in local K-12 classrooms.
During the academic year, a dozen teachers in schools around Oswego and Onondaga counties work with educational partners and the business community to provide students with hands-on activities, field excursions to interesting sites and connections with professionals working the fields of math, science and technology. The goal is to show students opportunities either working or teaching in these fields.
This classroom work is complemented by a weeklong Summer Institute where teachers from Oswego County, Syracuse City School District, and New York City collaborate on a cross-district learning community. They participate in a graduate course on a current educational topic, and develop projects that promote inquiry, high standards, respect for diversity, educational technology, and real-world applications in the workplace and the community.
