The purpose of GESA is to help teachers examine the impact of biases on student achievement and retention and to discover what happens when they reduce bias in their classroom. GESA is a program from the GrayMill Company. The State Education Department of New York often sponsors GESA programs across the state. For further information about GESA programs visit the GrayMill Company.
Three Major Objectives:
- To reduce disparity in student-teacher interactions.
- To increase student achievement.
- To increase the use of non-stereotypical behaviors, materials and activities.
Each of the above objectives are covered during the following five, two-hour workshops:
- Instructional Contact
- Grouping & Organization
- Classroom Management/Organization
- Enhancing Self-Esteem
- Evaluation & Performance
These workshops are conducted by SUNY Oswego faculty and by other Teachers from across New York State. If you are interested in learning more about having a series of workshops conducted at your school, make contact with Dr. Barbara Beyerbach or Dr. Marcia Burrell to schedule your session. Often study groups are formed within schools, in order to better implement the objectives within the program.
