Changing major to one in the Curriculum and Instruction Department, either Childhood, Adolescence, or TESOL. [These majors are required by state and national regulations to have procedures in place for admission that are departmentally based. Initially, a portfolio prior to entrance into the classes was decided upon, but this process is far too cumbersome to be realistic. Thus, the process has been simplified to the following procedures.]
For students admitted into Curriculum and Instruction majors when admitted to the college (either as Freshmen or Transfers)
- Meet with assigned advisor to complete the Application for Entrance to first semester education classes.
- Advisor signs and forwards the form to the Advisement Coordinator, Joyce Smith, in 214 Poucher (x4052).
- Student registers for the appropriate courses for the first semester.
- Candidacy packets will be distributed in a EDU 301 classes with instructions.
- Candidacy packets will be completed by the students and returned to the Advisement Office, 212 Poucher
For students admitted to majors outside education who wish to transfer into a major in the Curriculum and Instruction Department
- Meet with the Advisement Coordinator, Joyce Smith, 214 Poucher, to complete the Application for Entrance Form and the Change of Major Form. An unofficial transcript will need to be brought to this meeting showing a gpa of at least 2.50 and completion of at least 42sh by the end of the semester in which the application is being made.
- An advisor from the Curriculum and Instruction Department will be assigned
- Student registers for appropriate courses in the first semester of the major after meeting with Curriculum and Instruction advisor.
- Candidacy packets will be distributed in the EDU 301 classes with instructions.
- Candidacy packets will be completed by the students and returned to the Advisement Office, 212 Poucher.
