The major in Zoology provides students interested in biological sciences with the opportunity to concentrate in animal biology.  The nature of the courses introduces students to the broad field of animal science and provide a background for related advanced courses which prepare students for selected careers or postgraduate education.  A variety of elective courses, such as mammalogy, limnology and entomology are offered.  Independent study projects allow students to pursue research under the guidance of a faculty member.

The academic discipline of Zoology provides the basic requirements for entrance into a variety of careers.  The traditional academic courses in preparation for graduate work in Zoology remain a strong part of the program.  Graduate study prepares students for research and college level teaching.  Opportunities are also available for students to prepare for industrial, ecological or environmental positions, or for employment in laboratories.  It is the aim of the department through advisement, to help Zoology majors formulate and achieve their academic goals.
