Art Courses at Oswego

In the studio, the Department offers a variety of courses in ceramics, drawing, design and graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. These courses encourage self-expression and the honing of technical skills. Through discussion and critiques, students can measure their progress in both areas. Students in the BFA program can concentrate in either a studio area or in computer graphics. The Graphics area prepares graduates for positions in the visual communications industry. Each student uses a computer workstation in a hands-on setting and learns a great range of software programs. The work is printed out on high-quality, continuous tone color printers. Many students are able to participate in a work-study program their senior year, where they learn within an acutaly industry environment. Entry into the BFA programs requires a portfolio review. Offerings in Art History are particularly extensive for a college the size of Oswego. Students take a two semester Survey of Art and may select from upper division courses in Medieval, Renaissance, American, 19th century, 20th century, Chinese, Japanese, African, and American Indian art.
