Journalism is more than the evening newspaper.

SUNY Oswego has created a program that let's you keep abreast of new developments in gathering, writing and producing news. Through print, broadcast and the Internet, Oswego's journalism program offers students lots of hands-on experiences to ensure practical knowledge in varied formats.

What a journalism major involves:
• Learning to gather, write, edit, package, and produce the news
• Developing critical thinking, research, and communication skills
• Examining social, ethical, and legal dimensions of journalism
• Using the newest media technologies to explore all forms of today's information rich society
• Building a portfolio through internship experience with professional organizations

The journalism program at SUNY Oswego provides you with the experience and expertise you'll need for the real world, plus we offer many internship opportunities.

The communication studies department at SUNY Oswego includes a journalism program that prepares students for today's mass media. The program includes training in print, broadcast, and internet journalism.
As journalism majors or minors, you'll learn to gather, write, edit, package, and produce the news according to industry standards.  Along with the basics, a student will also learn to keep up with the ever-expanding world of mass media. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio with the Oswegonian, a student-run organization that produces a weekly newspaper.

The Oswegonian. our award-winning student newspaper is not the only news outlet.  WRVO-FM is our campus-based NPR news and information station offering students great internship opportunities.  WTOP, our student run television stations broadcasts its own nightly newscasts, and WNYO, our student-run radio station, offer even more opportunity for students.
