Information for Prospective MBA Students

Thank you for your interest in the Master of Business Administration degree at SUNY Oswego. U.S. News in August 2009 named SUNY Oswego among a select group of “Top Up-and-Coming Schools” for 2010. Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Accredited by AACSB since 2002, the School of Business is housed in a state-of-the-art academic building. Our five advanced programs of study focus on developing leaders to inspire change and innovation.

Admissions

Students who have completed work for a bachelor's degree from a college or university that is accredited by the appropriate regional accreditation association may apply for admission to our Master of Business Administration Program. Applicants will receive notification of their application decision from the Graduate Office. Please contact the MBA Director at mba@oswego.edu with any questions or concerns.

  1. Complete an application, which includes a personal statement about your goals, prior related experience, and future plans. There are no deadlines for applications as they are reviewed on a rolling basis, but international students are encouraged to submit their application by November 15 for spring and summer semesters and May 1 for fall semester, to allow time to process all necessary documentation.
  2. Complete Part II of the application.
  3. Submit official transcripts of any undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate coursework. International students must have their transcripts sent directly from their university to SUNY Oswego (must have an undergraduate grade point average of 2.6 or higher, which is subject to change without notice).
  4. Two unopened letters of reference.
  5. All official scores must be submitted to the Graduate Office which includes the GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS scores for international students. A minimum score of 500 is required for the GMAT, 83 for the TOEFL, and a 6.5 for the IELTS.

Master of Business Administration - Management (MBA)
The Master of Business Administration degree is intended to facilitate the career development of individuals presently in management positions or to provide foundation and in-depth study for individuals aspiring to move into management positions. The Master of Business Administration degree is intended to facilitate the career development of individuals presently in management positions or to provide foundation and in-depth study for individuals aspiring to move into management positions. Classes are offered online for the convienence of working professionals. Students in the online MBA will experience the same coursework and faculty members as our traditional MBA students. Public Accounting
The Public Accounting MBA is for students who have already received an undergraduate degree in accounting. This program has been designed to meet the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' requirements which went into effect in the year 2000 and has been registered with the N.Y.S. Education Department for candidates seeking admission to the Uniform C.P.A. Examination. Learn more

BS Accounting/Master of Business Administration
The combined five-year program leading to a B.S. degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) has been designed to meet the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' requirements which went into effect in the year 2000. In addition, the combined 5-year program has been registered with the N.Y.S. Education Department for candidates seeking admission to the Uniform C.P.A. Examination. Learn more

BA Psychology/Master of Business Administration
The Psychology BA/MBA program is a multi-disciplinary program offered jointly by the Department of Psychology and the School of Business and is designed to prepare Oswego psychology graduates for careers in business. At the conclusion of the program, the student will receive a BA in Psychology, a minor in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration degree. Learn more

The Levin Institute
The School of Business offers international finance opportunities through the Levin institute's New York program. Students engage in a semester-long, 15-credit intensive learning experience in international finance and global investment banking at New York’s Levin Institute. Distance learning classes will be taken at SUNY Oswego, while gaining real world experience in New York City at multinational firms and networking with industry executives. Learn more

Registration
Registration for classes is all done online using myOswego, where you can ADD/DROP classes, check registration status, view holds, view current schedule, view grades, and apply for graduation and more.

Financial Aid

Festa Fellowship

Festa Graduate Leadership Fellowships are funded through the generous support of Fred Festa, SUNY Oswego graduate in Business Administration, class of 1981, and Mary Lynn Barbero Festa, SUNY Oswego, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, class of 1982.

The Festa Fellowship provides a unique, professional leadership experience in a chosen field of interest offering stipends of up to $10,000 to support outstanding graduate students who wish to pursue advanced leadership experiences in their fields of study. Learn More

Misc

Miscellaneous

  1. SUNY Oswego’s MBA Program consists of 7 foundation, 6 core, one advanced tool, four elective and one capstone course.
  2. The seven foundation courses (21 credit hours) may be waived based upon previous academic achievement or work experience.
  3. Classes can be taken online, in Oswego, and at the Metro Center in downtown Syracuse.
  4. Full-time students can complete their program within one year, if foundations have been waived. If foundation courses are required, add another year.
  5. Part-time students can complete their program within two years if the foundation courses have been waived. If not, add another year.
  6. Full-time students are limited to 12 hours of course work, and part-time students are limited to 6 credit hours.
  7. Up to 6 credit hours of accredited and approved graduate work may be transferred from another accredited graduate program to Oswego’s MBA program.
  8. Only grades of B or better for courses taken off-campus can be transferred into the MBA Program.
  9. Transfer credit grades will not be included in the computation of the graduate student’s average.
  10. Courses completed more than seven years before the term in which the degree is awarded may not be used for credit toward the advanced degree.
