The Festa Fellowship provides a unique, professional leadership experience in a chosen field of interest offering stipends of up to $10,000 dollars to support outstanding graduate students who wish to pursue advanced leadership experiences in their fields of study.

2009 Festa Fellowships
Joseph Backo is an MBA management major who worked on a project for Mr. Brayton Wicks, Vice President of Axa Insurance Company during his Summer ‘09 Festa Fellowship. During this time, he was able to: apply concepts of Six Sigma Methodology, learn to use Cost Benefit Analysis, do research on products and services, and understand legal issues and other responsibilities involved in the business environment at Axa.
Tania Chen is a graduate student in the MBA program. Tania’s duties for her fellowship in the Fall semester ’09 focused on a “medical tourism” marketing project with Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. She worked closely with Bob Allen, VP of Communications and Governmental Relations, to provide Crouse Hospital with a market feasibility study.
Justin Dorsey is an MBA student who received a Festa Fellowship for Spring ’09 through Summer ’09 to do demographic and educational research for the Metropolitan Development Association of Central New York in conjunction with regional BOCES superintendents. Justin worked closely with Dr. Joseph Camerino, Superintendent/Executive Officer for the Oswego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services, to acquire statistical data, and to show how schools impact employment and the local economy.
Erison Rodriquez is an MBA student who received two Festa Fellowship placements. In Summer ’09, he was responsible for developing a marketing analysis while working with John Dyer, General Manager of Health Care Services for Kinney Drug Company. In Spring ’09, he worked with Mr. James Jerose, Director of SUNY Oswego’s Metro Center, to develop a strategic marketing plan for academic and professional development programs to be offered at the Metro Center.
Justin Tossas is a graduate student in the MBA Management program. Justin’s Festa Fellowship term is for the Summer and Fall ’09. Justin divided his placement working with both Dr. Michael Ameigh, Asst. Provost for Budget & Operations, and Ms. Catherine Santos, Assoc. Provost for Multicultural Opportunities & Programs, at SUNY Oswego. Justin’s responsibilities were in the areas of marketing and communication, including developing a website, establishing an ANGEL community for the Diversity Advisory Board and focusing on institutional budgeting and finance issues.
Internships
All MBA students with less than 5 years of professional work experience are encouraged to participate in internships. The Office of Experience-Based Education offers a full range of credit-bearing internship positions. Weekly Orientation Workshops are held to introduce students to various programs and assist students in the internship search. Additional on-campus internships can be found through Career Services.
Students are also encouraged to participate in co-ops. International Business Machines (IBM) recruits for Pre-Professional Accounting Co-ops whose position responsibilities could include the following: Control/maintain general ledger accounting or some other significant set of accounting records, perform in-depth analysis of complex accounting/financial data, imbalances, problems, etc., and, as required, possibly perform special accounting assignments which require the application of pre-professional level accounting knowledge.
