Barry A. Friedman

Dr. Barry A. Friedman
Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior
Founder and Co-Director

Dr. Friedman received his Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University and his BA degree from the University of Rochester. He teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. His honors include the President's Award for Teaching Excellence (2008), the Provost's Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity (2007), and a SUNY Oswego distinguished service professorship that affirms his commitment to teaching excellence and university service. Dr. Friedman is the founder and co-director of the Human Resource Management Center at the school of business.

Dr. Friedman teaches in the USA, Singapore, and Japan, and has extensive industry experience spanning manufacturing and service sectors with ExxonMobil, Xerox, and Harris Interactive where he served as Director of Training and Development and Human Resource Manager.

Dr. Friedman has published over 25 journal articles and 20 conference presentations about organizational effectiveness, employee satisfaction, and labor relations, in Industrial Relations, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and the Academy of Management, among others. Dr. Friedman is the faculty advisor for the SUNY Oswego Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter that has won superior recognition awards from the professional SHRM national organization. He is an honorary inductee into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the continuing adult education honor society.

Dr. Steven E. Abraham
Human Resources

Dr. Abraham received his B.S. degree from Cornell University, his J.D. degree from NYU School of Law, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  Appointed in 1997, Dr. Abraham teaches courses in Employment Law, Labor Relations, Human Resource Management and Legal Environment of Business.  His research interests include the interrelations between law and employment and the effects of events on firm profitability with event study methodology. 


Dr. John W. Huonker
Associate Professor
School of Business

Dr. Huonker is an associate professor of management. Dr. Huonker received his BA and MBA degrees from New York University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.  Appointed in 2000, Dr. Huonker teaches courses in management, organizational behavior and theory, and human resource management.  His research interests include the impact of organizational strategy on performance; the management of relationships between professionals and organizations as well as inter- and intra-organizational collaboration and competition. 


Dr. Pamela L. Cox
Associate Professor
School of Business

Dr. Pamela Cox is an associate professor of management. Dr. Cox was instrumental in coordinating the "Gateway to Business" course and also co-authored a textbook used in the course. Dr. Cox earned a Bachelor's degree in English and fine arts from Colgate University, an MBA degree from SUNY Binghamton, and a Ph.D. in business administration from Syracuse University.  Her research interests include higher education pedagogy and international ethics.
