Although we know a great deal about factors related to the success of women in STEM at major research institutions, there is less information about how they fare at comprehensive institutions. Comprehensive institutions are responsible for the employment of a large number of faculty in STEM areas, and for educating many of the students who will continue in STEM fields. In addition, the balance between research and teaching at comprehensive institutions differs from that at Research 1 institutions, resulting in different policies and procedures, different assessments of faculty work, and different criteria for success.

SUNY Oswego is well positioned to increase the knowledge about the success of women faculty at comprehensive institutions.
