Then: The 1909-10 Oswego Normal School men's basketball team went to the national tournament, then run by the Amateur Athletic Union, in Chicago. After winning their first game handily over the Kewanee YMCA 43-25, the Oswego men lost a controversial 25-24 decision to St. John's Military. Observers said they heard whisperings that organizers wanted a Midwest team to win and noted that fouls were called differently in the second half. Manager Roswell Snody said no Oswego representatives were allowed to sit at the timekeepers' table, where the final buzzer sounded after St. John's took its first lead.
Now: The SUNY Oswego men's basketball team made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament in March 2011, led by junior forward Chad Burridge (pictured), named the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year. The Lakers beat Wells College 64-58 Friday before falling to Rhode Island College 71-63 on Saturday. The Oswego men finished the season with an overall record of 24-5, with a 17-1 SUNYAC record taking the regular-season conference title.
