Careers in Private Research and Consulting Firms

Many private research firms, consulting firms, and "think-tanks" hire economists. There are a wide variety of such firms that specialize in a diverse mix of economic applications. Some of the areas that are covered by these firms include:

  • cost-benefit analysis (under contract to state or federal agencies)
  • econometric analysis for firms and government agencies
  • environmental studies
  • forensic economics (estimating the value of foregone income as a result of wrongful injury or death)
  • international economics
  • market research
