Advisement
Students are strongly encourage to attend advisement orientation and group advisement sessions listed below. Students who are unable to make these sessions or need advisement outside of normal registration times, should sign-up for an appointment outside the office at 32 Lanigan.

Advisement Sessions

Advisement Dates during Summer by appointment only

Advisement Dates during Fall/Spring Semester will be posted 2 weeks prior to the start of registration outside rooms 32 & 33 in Lanigan Hall. They will also be posted outside room 217 in Tyler Hall.

For Individal Advisement Appointments:
Sign-up for an appointment on the door of Lanigan 32. Students can sign-up for Clabough, Roe, or Thompson.

Tips for Attending an Advisement Session:

  • Review course offerings and come prepared to create a schedule.
  • Do not say "I don't know" more than twice

  • The difference between a Studio Art or Graphic Design emphasis

Graduation Requirements
It is your responsibility to read and understand the college catalog and comply with graduation requirements. (If you are a transfer student, see that sheet first.) Following are the basic requirements:

If you are a BFA major
(Studio 030/Graphics 032):

  • You must have at least 80 hours in Art, but no more than 81
  • You must have at feast 123 total hours
  • You must have at least 42 hours of upper-division credit (300 or 400 level courses)
  • You must fulfill all art department requirements (see catalog)
  • You must fulfill all General Education requirements, including art department writing requirements

If you are a BA major
(Studio 020/Graphic Design 028/Humanities 025):

  • You must have at least 40 hours in Art, but no more than 48
  • You should complete another major to enhance your career development
  • You must have at least 122 total hours
    You must have at least 42 hours of upper-division credit (300 or 400 level courses)
  • You must fulfill all art department requirements (see catalog)
  • You must fulfill all General Education requirements, including art department writing requirements

If you are a transfer student:

  • from a community college and have an AA or AS (not AAS) degree, you might be covered under an Articulation Agreement, whereby all of your General Education Basic Skills and Knowledge Foundations requirements are waived. (most Art students will have an AAS).
  • from a community college, you can only transfer 62 hours
  • from a 4-year college, you can transfer up to 92 hours
  • and a BFA major (Studio 030/Graphics 032), you must take at least half (36 hours) of the minimum (72 hours) in Art at Oswego
  • and a BA major (Studio 020/Humanities Emphasis 025), you must take at least half (17 hours) of the minimum (33 hours) in Art at Oswego
  • The basic requirements for the BFA and BA degrees also apply.
